Hard Of Hearing Services

A qualified professional addresses the needs of people who are hard-of-hearing or late-deafened, helping them learn to live with this loss with coping strategies, assistive listening and alerting devices, and training in the use of the Relay Texas service.  DAC has a Technology Center where people can learn about and try various assistive listening devices. Presentations are given to community groups and home visits are made to educate and train hard of hearing and late-deafened people in coping strategies, assistive devices and Relay Texas Service.
Support groups are available around the Dallas area for persons with a hearing loss.
Make an appointment to see the Coordinator of the Hard of Hearing Program.

Call 214-521-0407 voice or TTY. All services are free of charge.

"You Should Hear What You Are Missing,"  is a 14:30 minute video written and produced by the Hard of Hearing Program of Deaf Action Center.

This video shows four problem situations that hard of hearing people face and then shows the situation with solutions to these problems.  The video also shows a variety of assistive listening and alerting devices that people can use to help them live with their hearing loss.
The video won the Governor of Texas Committee on Disabilities Barbara Jordan Award for people with disabilities.  The video will be placed in every library in Texas along with a resource manual on where people can find help for their hearing loss.
"You Should Hear What You Are Missing" is open-captioned and also has a second version with Spanish subtitles.  Check out this video at your local library! "You Should Hear What You Are Missing" is now available at every Public Library in Texas!

For more information about how to obtain a video, call Esther Kelly at 214-521-0407 or send e-mail to hoh@deafactioncentertexas.org
